We recently discovered the work of Malika Favre, a talented French illustrator based in London. It must be said that her very minimalist style is totally in line with the current graphic trend (the irreducible and probably timeless flat design is still relevant today) where these illustrations are characterized only by very powerful shapes and flat colors.
Minimalizm and feminizm
Her subjects and themes are often very feminine and are made up of faces, pulpy lips, generous and attractive colours… At first glance very simple, her choices of color combinations are frighteningly effective and minimalist too. She often uses very vivid « screen colors » that compete with each other in terms of their visual impact. Malika Favre also knows how to play with shapes by juxtaposing solids and voids for modern and original optical effects.
A small tribute (certainly unconscious) to Malik Sidibe: we find in her creations quite regularly black and white stripes a bit like those we used to see in the background of portraits and photographs of the famous African photographer who died recently.
Alive illustrations!
Another element that deserves attention in the work of this talented French illustrator is her obvious compatibility with animation and motion design which works very well on some of her creations where her characters and forms come to life.
An inspiration and essential reference for any creative person, curious or amateur of feminine and Parisian images and graphic universes.
