Black-light live painting for the launch of the BMW X2

For the launch of the new BMW X2, the brand wanted more than a classic product reveal: they were looking for an urban, bold and memorable artistic performance that would resonate with their campaign visuals shot in industrial locations and graffiti-covered settings. After several collaborations with BMW on different launch evenings, we were invited to imagine a new kind of urban artistic direction for automotive events, this time built entirely around fluorescent paint and black light.

Transforming a dark room into a luminous set

The core idea was simple and radical: place the BMW X2 in a completely dark room, lit only with black light, and create a large-scale abstract graffiti piece live during the evening. As the artist painted, lines and shapes slowly appeared on the wall behind the car, glowing in vibrant tones of blue, pink and acid green. The audience discovered the work in real time, in the same way one might experience an elegant live graffiti performance during a corporate convention – except here the visual impact was pushed much further by the luminous, almost cinematic atmosphere.

This black-light set-up creates a level of surprise that is still rare in brand events, including in a city like Dubai where audiences are used to spectacular experiences. It speaks directly to clients who are looking for a truly black light live painting Dubai solution that feels new, immersive and on-brand for the automotive world.

Fluorescent graffiti as a statement

Working with fluorescent spray paint demands a different approach from the artist. Each gesture has to be decisive, because the colours react strongly under the UV lights and every movement creates an immediate effect in the space. For this BMW X2 performance, the composition was built around flowing curves and energetic strokes that echoed the design of the car. The graphic language stayed abstract – closer to the spirit of our live graffiti paintings for fashion events than to a traditional figurative mural – so that the focus remained on the vehicle and on the emotion of the moment.

Compared to more classic live mural formats, such as a graffiti wall created for sports or running events in Dubai and the UAE, black-light performances introduce a strong sense of mystery. At first, guests mostly perceive the outlines of the car. As the artist progresses, the fluorescent piece grows in intensity and the whole room starts to vibrate with colour, turning the reveal into a show in itself.

From live performance to BMW “arty” shooting

Once the live painting was completed, the set became a playground for photography. We invited photographer Samuel Péricles to capture a series of images where the reflections of the fluorescent mural slide across the bodywork, wheels and interior of the BMW X2. The abstract shapes painted on the wall were reframed by the curves of the vehicle, generating a new, almost futuristic visual language. This is the same mindset that guides our more experimental projects, like the live chocolate painting experiences we develop for large trade shows in Dubai: using art as a tool to create surprising, high-impact imagery that brands can reuse beyond the event itself.

For automotive marketing teams, this type of collaboration opens interesting possibilities. A black-light graffiti performance can be staged for a one-off VIP evening, then extended through photo or video content, just like the more “daylight” version of our live art murals for vehicle launch events in Dubai. The artwork becomes both a scenographic element and a source of visual material for social media, press kits or internal communication.

A concept tailored for Dubai and the Middle East

This project was originally produced in Europe, but it translates perfectly to the energy of Dubai and the wider Middle East. The format is compact, can be adapted to different venues, and offers the same flexibility as our other live urban paintings for automotive launches: the car can be repositioned, the size of the canvas can change, and the colour palette can be aligned with the visual identity of the campaign.

Brands that already work with live art – whether through graffiti performances for watch or fashion events or artistic live painting at trade shows in Dubai and Abu Dhabi – often look for a new step, something that will surprise their guests again. Integrating black light, fluorescent paints and an immersive sound and light design is a powerful way to refresh the experience while remaining consistent with a contemporary, urban positioning.

Whether it is for an exclusive reveal, a regional dealers’ convention or an anniversary celebration similar in spirit to our immersive live graffiti setups for corporate parties in Dubai, this BMW X2 black-light concept shows how far a brand can go when it dares to treat the car and the artwork as equal protagonists on stage.
